RUSSELL P. MOHNS, P.E., Principal/Project Engineer

Through my technical and practical understanding of roofing and waterproofing systems, I’ve been able to provide STR-SEG clients with efficient, high performance and cost-effective roofing systems.


Mr. Mohns brings a wealth of experience in the analysis, design, specification and construction administration of various roofing and waterproofing systems as well as a keen insight in the construction administration of large skylight projects. He has performed as the project engineer/manager for other design professionals on a range of projects including industrial, commercial, historic renovations and governmental projects.

His superior understanding of low sloped roofing includes conventional asphalt and coal tar built-up roof systems as well as APP and SBS modified systems when conditions warrant the use of low fume application. He has experience with the vast and ever changing field of single-ply systems including both the thermoplastic and thermo-set membranes. In addition, he has worked extensively with steep sloped roofing includes asphalt shingles, cedar shakes and shingles, metal, clay, tile, slate and thatch.

Mr. Mohns’ knowledge in the waterproofing field includes both hot and cold applied multi-ply systems, single-ply systems as well as the peel and stick systems. He has experience with overlying traffic surfaces that include concrete, asphalt, removable paver systems and various landscape plantings.

His experience in the exterior wall covering field includes masonry units, exterior insulation finish systems (EIFS), metal and related sealant interfaces.

Mr. Mohns has provided forensic investigation and expert testimony relating to roofing, wall coverings and envelope sealants for litigation. He has represented owners as well as architects in these cases.
